Privacy Policy
Landroamer is a trail navigation and trip-planning app for offroad and overlanding travel. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do and don't do with it. It's written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We don't run ads. We collect what the app needs to work and nothing else, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Landroamer is operated from Colorado, United States. If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@landroamer.io.
2. What we collect
An account is required to use Landroamer. Here's everything we hold and why:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create your account, sign you in, and send trip invites you've asked for. |
| Display name, username, avatar, profile details | So other roamers can recognize you. |
| Vehicle (“rig”) details and photos | Shown on your profile and next to trails you've run, so others can judge whether a trail suits their setup. |
| Approximate and precise location | To show your position on the map, find trails and campsites near you, guide you on trail, and — only if you turn it on — share your position with friends you choose. |
| Photos you upload | Attached to your run logs, campsites, comments, and profile. |
| Run logs, saved trips, campsites, trail reports, comments, likes | The content you create in the app. |
| Friend connections and direct messages | To operate the social and coordination features. |
| Push notification token | To send notifications you've opted into, such as trail status changes. |
| Basic technical and diagnostic data | App version, device type, and error reports, so we can fix what breaks. |
Location, specifically
Landroamer requests location only while the app is open. We do not collect your location in the background or when the app is closed. If we ever add a feature that needs background location, we will ask you separately and explain exactly why before requesting that permission.
Location sharing with friends is off unless you turn it on, applies only to people you've chosen, and can be turned off at any time.
What we don't collect
- We don't collect payment card details. If you subscribe, Apple or Google processes the payment and we only receive confirmation that a subscription is active.
- We don't use advertising identifiers, ad networks, or cross-app tracking.
- We don't buy data about you from anyone.
3. How we use it
We use your information to operate the app: to show you trails and campsites, plan and guide routes, run the social and trip-coordination features, send notifications you've asked for, keep the service secure, and fix problems. We also use aggregate, non-identifying usage information to understand which features matter.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. What other people can see
Some information is public or semi-public by design. You control most of it:
- Your profile — display name, username, avatar, and rig details are visible to other roamers.
- Run logs, photos, and comments you post are visible according to the visibility you choose.
- Campsites can be set to private, friends-only, or public. New campsites default to public so the community map stays useful — you can change this on any pin.
- Your location is only visible to friends you have specifically shared it with, and only while sharing is on.
- Direct messages are visible only to you and the person you're messaging.
Please be thoughtful about photos and campsite locations you post publicly. Coordinates you share publicly can be seen by anyone using the app.
5. Service providers
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We do rely on a small number of providers to run the app. They process data on our behalf, under contract, only for the purposes below:
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, file storage, and server functions. Your account and content live here. |
| Mapbox | Map tiles, search, and route directions. Location coordinates are sent to generate maps and routes. |
| Resend | Sending transactional email, such as sign-in codes and trip invites. |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, push notification delivery, app distribution, and subscription billing. |
| Expo | App builds, updates, and push notification routing. |
We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or where necessary to protect the safety, rights, or property of a person or of Landroamer. If Landroamer is ever acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, and this policy will continue to apply until you're given notice of any change.
6. Security
We protect your information using industry-standard measures: encryption in transit, encrypted storage, database-level access rules that restrict each account to its own data, and restricted administrative access.
We take this seriously, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we'll notify you as required by law.
7. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active.
You can delete your account from inside the app — Settings → Delete account. This removes your profile, run logs, photos, campsites, messages, and account record from our systems. Some content may persist briefly in encrypted backups before those expire, and anonymized or aggregate data that can no longer identify you may be retained.
Content you've already shared with others — for example a comment on someone else's trail report — may remain visible in an anonymized form. You can also email privacy@landroamer.io to request deletion.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Residents of California, the EU/UK, and several US states have specific statutory rights along these lines.
You can exercise most of these directly in the app. For anything else, email privacy@landroamer.io and we'll respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires. We won't discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
9. Children
Landroamer is not intended for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. International users
Landroamer is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you're using the app from outside the US, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Landroamer after a change means you accept the updated policy.
